The Vascular Center
The Vascular Center at Logan Health Medical Center is focused on early identification and treatment for patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The Vascular Center offers many diagnostic tools for your doctor to check for PAD. Treatments for PAD may include lifestyle changes, drug therapies, exercise therapy, endovascular approaches (such as stenting), surgery and more.
What is PAD?
PAD occurs when there is a narrowing of the blood vessels outside of your heart. The cause of PAD is atherosclerosis. This happens when plaque, a substance made up of fat and cholesterol, builds up on the walls of the arteries that supply blood to the arms and legs. The plaque causes the arteries to narrow or become blocked. This can reduce or stop blood flow, usually to the legs, causing them to hurt or feel numb. If severe enough, blocked blood flow can cause tissue death. If this condition is left untreated, a foot or leg may need to be amputated.
Risk Factors for PAD
- If you smoke, you have an especially high risk for PAD.
- If you have diabetes, you have an especially high risk for PAD.
- People with high blood pressure or high cholesterol are at risk for PAD.
- People who are obese are at risk for PAD.
Symptoms of PAD
- Leg pain that does not go away when you stop exercising
- Foot or toe wounds that won’t heal or heal very slowly
- Gangrene
- A marked decrease in the temperature of your lower leg or foot, particularly compared to the other leg or to the rest of your body

Rehab & Recovery
Helping patients get back to the business of living is one of the most rewarding aspects of our work at Logan Health. We’re here to put you on the road to a full recovery.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation provides monitored exercise and risk factor management for individuals recovering from a heart attack, heart surgery, heart transplant, valve surgery, stable angina or a catheterization procedure.
The program is coordinated by a team of two medical directors, cardiology and pulmonology physicians, ‘clinical’ exercise physiologists, wellness coaches, and respiratory therapists. Cardiac rehabilitation promotes daily exercise, a balanced diet, risk factor reduction and stress management. Care is individualized based on diagnosis, medications, current physical status and the physician’s recommendations. All education classes are held in a conference room at the medical fitness center and are free. Patients may also qualify for our SETPAD (Supervised Exercise Therapy for Peripheral Artery Disease) program, as well.
For more information, call (406) 751-4504
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary rehabilitation helps you to live an active life within the limitations of your lungs. Pulmonary Rehabilitation is an outpatient program designed for those diagnosed with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This program focuses on supervised exercise classes and education about your lung condition to help patients reduce and control breathing difficulties and other symptoms, as well as learn more about this disease, treatment options, and chronic disease coping strategies.
A physician referral and pulmonary function test completed within the last year are required. Most insurances cover pulmonary rehabilitation.
For more information call (406) 751-4504 or (406) 751-4514
Outpatient Therapeutic Respiratory Care
For patients who have lung disease, such as asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis, outpatient therapeutic respiratory care offers exercise and education designed to strengthen the respiratory muscles and the muscles of the arms, trunk and legs. Once enrolled in the program, patients work with a team of pulmonary rehabilitation specialists who will tailor the program to meet their specific needs
A referral is needed from your physician documenting your diagnosis, need and reason for breathing retraining. Pulmonary function test required. Most insurance companies will cover respiratory rehabilitation services. Please call our team at 751-4514 or 751-4504 for more information.
