Robert Mitchell, MD, is a cardiologist with Logan Health Heart & Lung. Dr. Mitchell came to Montana from Duke University Medical Center, where he was medical director of the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory. He considers himself an educator and a doctor, and teaches his patients how to take control of their own health with lifestyle changes. Dr. Mitchell attended medical school and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco. While there, he was awarded membership in Alpha Omega Alpha, the highest honor a physician can receive. It reflects his focus on patient care, ethics and advancing the medical field. He also achieved the program’s prestigious honor known as the House-staff Teaching Award. He was awarded a fellowship in cardiovascular disease from Duke University in 2006, and a second fellowship in vascular medicine jointly from Duke University and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston that same year. Dr. Mitchell is board certified in cardiology and vascular medicine. Dr. Mitchell has extensive experience treating polyvascular atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease. His research with gene therapy, stem cell research and exercise physiology has enhanced his ability to treat peripheral arterial disease, renal artery stenosis and those patients in need of antiplatelet therapy. Before his medical career, Dr. Mitchell played professional tennis on an international level for six years.
