Accepting new patientsRobert Mitchell, MD, is a cardiologist with expertise in cardiovascular and vascular medicine. He brings a patient-centered approach to care and considers education an important part of helping patients take an active role in their health through lifestyle changes.
Dr. Mitchell attended medical school and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha and received the House-staff Teaching Award. He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Duke University in 2006, followed by a fellowship in vascular medicine through Duke University and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Mitchell previously served as medical director of the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory at Duke University Medical Center. He is board certified in cardiology and vascular medicine and has extensive experience treating polyvascular atherosclerosis and peripheral arterial disease, including renal artery stenosis. His background in gene therapy, stem cell research and exercise physiology further informs his approach to treating vascular disease and managing antiplatelet therapy.
Before pursuing his medical career, Dr. Mitchell played professional tennis internationally for six years.
