James Matthew (Matt) Maxwell, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon with extensive experience in complex surgical care. He has held leadership positions in cardiothoracic surgery in Montana and Alaska, bringing decades of experience to his practice.
Dr. Maxwell is a graduate of UC Irvine and earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University. He completed his surgical residency at Naval Hospital San Diego and his cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee.
Before relocating to the Flathead Valley, Dr. Maxwell served as director of cardiothoracic surgery in Anchorage, Alaska. Previously, he served as director of cardiothoracic surgery at International Heart Institute in Missoula from 1997 to 2017.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Maxwell enjoys biking, tennis and hiking.
