Elise Anderes, MD, grew up in a small town in Maryland. She earned her bachelor of science in chemistry and her master’s degree in organic chemistry at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She completed medical school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. During that time, she took a year off to volunteer in Ghana, West Africa, where she learned to appreciate the challenges faced by those in underserved communities with limited access to medical care. This experience sparked an interest in working in rural or underserved communities. Early in her residency in internal medicine at Loyola University in Chicago, she observed a unique relationship between patients and their oncologists. Dr. Anderes quickly realized it is a privilege to care for patients faced with a diagnosis of cancer. She still is guided by her belief in the importance of educating patients about their disease and helping them make decisions about their care. Dr. Anderes completed her fellowship in hematology and oncology at Loyola in 2009, then joined the Loyola faculty. With board certifications in internal medicine, hematology and oncology, her practice at Loyola focused on gastrointestinal cancers and benign and malignant hematology. She also practiced at a small community hospital, where she treated a variety of cancers. Dr. Anderes and her husband, Stefan, moved to the Flathead Valley because of their love for the outdoors. She spent a month during medical school on the Blackfeet reservation in Browning; Stefan attended Montana State University for a year and always wanted to return to the state. They both love to ski, hike, kayak, canoe and camp, and Dr. Anderes is an avid runner.
