The Role of Acupuncture in Childbirth

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture with Erin Boedeker The acupuncture points are places on the body where, when accessed with the acupuncture needles, stimulate the nerves, muscles and connective tissue. This stimulation appears to boost the activity of the body’s natural painkillers and increase blood flow.

Are there any side effects?

People often feel a deep sensation of relaxation during and following the treatment. It is possible that a patient may feel faint during treatment, but this is a rare occurrence. Occasionally, the acupuncturist will prick a small vessel under the skin, leaving a bruise. The bruise naturally disappears in a few days.

Are acupuncture services covered by insurance?

Each insurance plan is individual as to whether it will cover acupuncture services. Patients who are interested in acupuncture services should contact their insurance provider to determine reimbursement.
