Keep your family healthy

Five tips for staying well

Kids are back in school, fall sports are in full swing and flu season is just around the corner. Staying healthy through the winter can be a challenge. Follow the tips below to avoid getting sick.

If you do find yourself feeling under the weather, Kalispell Regional Healthcare offers KRH Care Anywhere, a virtual clinic for minor illnesses and injuries. Speak with a medical provider anytime, day or night, to get the care you need. KRH Care Anywhere is a convenient 24/7 virtual house call when you need us most.

1. Wash those hands!

Hands touch everything and can be covered in germs. Wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub. Teach children to wash their hands before meals, when germ-covered fingers are more likely to touch their mouth.

2. Get quality sleep.

Getting enough sleep is important for all of us, but it’s especially important for children. Ongoing poor sleep can make kids and adults feel run down and less resilient to fighting off colds and flu.

3. Eat healthy food.

A healthy diet can contribute to both your short- and long-term health. Try to eat high quality and minimally processed foods, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, healthy fats and healthy sources of protein.

4. Exercise for body and mind.

Regular exercise contributes to physical health and can improve your mood. Participate in group sports, go to the gym or take regular walks with your family.

5. Vaccinate to avoid disease.

Schools may require kids to be vaccinated. Is your family up to date? Talk with your primary care provider to see which vaccinations are recommended for you. Don't have a primary care provider? Fill out this simple form to request one.

  • Sinus pain and congestion
  • Sore throat
  • Cold and flu
  • Pink eye (conjunctivitis)

In some cases, we may have to escalate a patient to see a provider in person, such as when a physical exam or lab work is required. Prescriptions are available; however, we only prescribe when clinically appropriate and at the provider's discretion.
