The NAPBC and CoC are both quality programs administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) that have granted accredited status to Logan Health Breast Center and Cancer Services in Kalispell, Montana. Logan Health was first accredited by the NAPBC and CoC back in 2012, and has continued to complete reaccreditation every three years.
NAPBC – To achieve voluntary NAPBC accreditation, a breast center demonstrates compliance with the NAPBC standards that address a center’s leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement for patients. Breast centers seeking NAPBC accreditation undergo a site visit every three years. As a NAPBC-accredited center, Logan Health Breast Center is committed to maintaining levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive, patient-centered, multidisciplinary care resulting in high-quality care for patients with breast disease. Patients can be confident that their breast care team includes health care professionals from a variety of disciplines who are committed to working together to provide the best care available through their entire course of treatment. Patients receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center also have access to information on clinical trials and new treatment options, genetic counseling, and patient-centered services including psychosocial support, rehabilitation services, and survivorship care.
“NAPBC accreditation tells a woman with a concern for or diagnosis of breast cancer that she can receive all components of her care in one place,” says Dr. Melissa Kaptanian, physician executive at Logan Health. “It also lets her know that this care will be multidisciplinary and focused on her. NAPBC standards include requirements for a navigation process, access to clinical trials, rehabilitation services, and psychosocial support above and beyond excellent medical care informed by the most up to date guidelines. Each women is treated by a team – and she is the team captain.”
CoC – The CoC Accreditation Program provides the framework for Logan Health to improve its quality of patient care through various cancer-related programs that focus on the full spectrum of cancer care including prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, life-long follow-up for recurrent disease, and end-of-life care. When patients receive care at a CoC facility, they also have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, and patient centered services including psycho-social support, a patient navigation process, and a survivorship care plan that documents the care each patient receives and seeks to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life.
“Only 30% of hospitals in the USA are CoC accredited, but these CoC-accredited centers provide over 70% of cancer care,” says Dr. Melissa Kaptanian. Accreditations tells the consumer that our program is committed to best available treatment for their cancer but of equal importance it proves our commitment to offering clinic trials, comprehensive support programs, resources for survivors and their families, and cancer prevention programs. We are so proud of our dedicated team of rehabilitation specialists, registrars, nurses, providers and administrators and so many others for coming together as a team to put our patients first and assure them the highest quality of cancer care”
