TMS is a noninvasive procedure that uses targeted pulse magnetic fields, to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression.
How it works
During a TMS session, you will recline comfortably in the treatment chair as an electromagnetic coil is placed against your scalp near your forehead. You are awake and alert during the session and will experience a tapping sound and sensation on your scalp. The electromagnet delivers a painless magnetic pulse to stimulate the region of your brain involved in mood control and depression. The treatment involves 20-minute sessions, 5 days a week for up to 6 weeks. Side effects are minimal, with sensitivity of the scalp and minor headaches the most reported.
Who is it for?
Currently, TMS treatment is FDA approved only for adults suffering from severe depression disorders.
