Logan Health Behavioral Health (Acute Inpatient)

Logan Health Behavioral Health (formerly Pathways Treatment Center), a department of Logan Health Medical Center, located in Kalispell, Montana, began its high standard of care when it opened its doors in 1994. We provide acute inpatient services for individuals who have mental health disorders.

The 40-bed facility offers clinically effective treatment through the collaborative efforts of a team that includes psychiatrists, addictionologists, certified licensed addiction counselors, licensed therapists, psychiatric nurses and mental health technicians. All staff members are dedicated to delivering exceptional care in a private, caring atmosphere.

What We Provide

Logan Health Behavioral Health provides inpatient hospitalization for psychiatric adults and adolescents in a friendly and professionally staffed medical facility. It is a short-term, acute behavioral health hospital with an average stay of usually less than a week. Lengths of stay vary and are determined after the patient has been evaluated by the treatment team. On admission a registered nurse will work with you through the admission process. You will be seen by psychiatrists and medical physicians depending on specific needs. Your assigned therapist will make every effort to introduce him/herself to you as soon as possible and will act as your counselor and case manager. If you are admitted in the evening, you will meet your physicians and therapist the next day. Daily group therapy, life skills and recreational therapy are provided to help you learn more effective coping skills.

Intake/Referrals

Our intake specialist and clinical staff are available to help determine the appropriateness for placement at our facility. For more information about the referral process, please call (406) 756-3950.

If you are concerned for yourself or for others and their safety, please call 911 or go to your nearest Emergency Room.

Acute Inpatient Care for Adults

The adult inpatient program at Logan Health Behavioral Health treats patients ages 18 and older. We provide psychiatric stabilization and around-the-clock nursing care for patients experiencing critical symptoms and mental health issues, such as suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and/or psychotic episodes. The primary goal of the program is to relieve symptoms of emotional crisis and help the patient regain control of his or her life.

Our clinical team is comprised of a team of nurses, therapists, psychiatrists, and other mental health specialists. This team works with each patient individually to develop a customized treatment plan. As soon as a patient is admitted, we begin planning for a successful return to the community and daily life. These plans may include partial hospitalization, an outpatient treatment program or other community resources.

Adult Discharge Planning

Discharge planning is a very important part of our treatment process at Logan Health Behavioral Health. To create a smooth transition after hospitalization, we begin working on discharge planning at the time of admission. Your cooperation and participation are vital to making this process successful.

The adult discharge planning process includes:

  • Arranging aftercare with a physician or clinical nurse specialist for medication management. We will provide a referral if needed and or schedule the appointment with the patients established provider.
  • Arranging aftercare with a therapist for continued outpatient counseling. We can provide a referral and or schedule with the patients established provider.
  • Providing referrals to support groups, aftercare and/or 12-step groups.
  • Choosing a supportive environment for the patient to go after discharge.

Before the time of discharge, the patient and a support person (parent, spouse, family member or friend) will meet with a therapist to discuss the patient’s discharge plan.

Acute Inpatient Care for Adolescents

The adolescent inpatient program at Logan Health Behavioral Health treats patients ages 12 to 17 by providing psychiatric stabilization and around-the-clock care for patients experiencing critical symptoms. Critical symptoms may include suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and/or psychotic features. An additional critical symptom includes being considered “gravely disabled,” which means an individual is unable to care for themselves, putting their life or others in danger.

Our clinical team is comprised of nurse’s therapists, psychiatrist, and other mental health specialists. The team works with each patient to provide an individualized treatment plan. The main focus of the plan is to relieve symptoms of emotional crisis and help the patient regain control of his or her life.

As soon as a patient is admitted, we begin planning for a successful return to the community and daily life. These plans may include partial hospitalization, an outpatient treatment program or other community resources.

Education and Support

Depression Support Group

Are you just feeling blue, or is your sadness something more serious? Everyone occasionally feels down, but it usually passes within a couple of days. When a person has a depressive disorder, it interferes with normal daily life and causes pain for the person with the disorder and for those who care about him or her.

Depression is a common but serious illness. Most people who experience it need treatment in order to get better, but many never seek that treatment. Of those who do, the vast majority – even those with severe depression – can get better. Intensive research into the illness has resulted in medications, psychotherapies and other methods of treatment.

Pathways offers a Depression Support Group on Wednesdays from 12-1:30 p.m. in the Pathways conference room. This is FREE and open to the public. The Depression Support Group is a peer-led group that meets weekly to learn and reinforce coping skills for people who deal with daily depression. For more information about the Depression Support Group, call Courtney at (406) 756-3950.
