Our Winkley Mobile Mammography reaches women who are unable to come to the on-site imaging center
. The mobile unit is helping eliminate barriers by making it faster and more convenient for women in rural Montana to have a screening mammogram, the key to lifesaving early detection of breast cancer. Yearly mammograms are covered by Medicare and most insurance companies.
We have retired our Winkley Women’s Coach
and began service with a brand new custom built mobile vehicle in September 2020 for tomosynthesis breast imaging & bone density scanning. Tomosynthesis or 3D Mammography™ is an extraordinary technology that lets your doctor see breast tissue in a way never before possible. 3DTM imaging captures multiple slices of the breast, all at different angles. The images are brought together to create a crystal-clear 3D™ reconstruction of the breast. The radiologist is then able to review the reconstruction, one thin slice at a time, almost like turning pages in a book so there’s less chance for a cancer to hide behind overlapping tissue.
Our current sites of service are Eureka, Polson, Chester, Cutbank, Shelby, Choteau, Conrad, Malta, Townsend, Fort Benton, and Browning. Thank you to our generous donors throughout Northern Montana who’ve helped us extend our service to women throughout our state.
About Mobile Mammography Screening
Having an on-site mammogram in the mobile unit is just as safe and confidential as going to a fixed-site center. With digital mammography, a woman knows before she leaves that her image is technically accurate. After entering the mobile unit through a reception area, the woman proceeds to a private dressing room adjacent to the mammography suite, where a brief health history is taken before her exam. Following her mammogram, she has the opportunity to ask questions and learn how her results will be communicated to her and her physician. Should the results of the mammogram be abnormal, the woman will receive a phone call from their provider to discuss follow-up care.
