Advancements in breast imaging are changing what is possible for women’s health in Montana. Thanks to a $30,000 investment from PacificSource Health Plans, Logan Health will soon expand the power of Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM) to not only detect breast cancer more effectively but also diagnose it more efficiently, helping shorten the time between uncertainty and answers for patients.

This gift to the Logan Health Foundation from PacificSource Health Plans will fund the purchase of contrast biopsy software that enables CEM to guide biopsies, a crucial next step in breast cancer diagnosis.

“Imaging and diagnostic tools are crucial in the early identification of breast cancer,” said Michael Barth, President of the Logan Health Foundation. “Technology in this area is advancing so rapidly, and philanthropy is critical to our ability to remain current. Thank you, PacificSource, for partnering with us to ensure we remain leaders in our region.”

Contrast Enhanced Mammography is transforming breast cancer screening in our region, particularly for women with dense breast tissue or elevated cancer risk. By combining a standard mammogram with the administration of contrast dye, CEM can highlight areas of increased blood flow that may indicate cancer. This advanced imaging helps provide patients and providers with greater clarity and confidence in care decisions.

“The addition of this software keeps Logan Health at the forefront of breast imaging innovation, allowing us to offer cutting-edge care that is rarely available in rural communities,” said Angela Tennison, Manager of Mammography, MRI and MRI Safety at Logan Health’s Imaging Services. “We are truly grateful to PacificSource Health Plans for helping us bring this level of technology to the women we serve.”

“Charitable investments in our medical community enable Logan Health to maintain world-class care,” added Dr. Scott Alexander, Vice President of Northwest Imaging and Logan Health Mammography’s lead interpreting physician. “PacificSource’s generosity and thoughtful contribution will significantly empower both myself and our exceptional Mammography team, allowing us to work with even greater diligence to provide our patients with the highest possible standard of care.”

With the addition of contrast biopsy software, Logan Health will be able to perform diagnostic biopsies using CEM, reducing the need for multiple imaging appointments and shortening the diagnostic timeline for patients. This upgrade makes breast imaging more accessible, effective and patient-centered.

“We’re proud to support Logan Health in bringing this powerful technology to women in Montana,” said Erik Wood, Montana Market President, PacificSource Health Plans. “Early detection and faster diagnosis can make all the difference, and this investment is about making sure every patient feels seen, supported and cared for.”

PacificSource Health Plans has been a dedicated partner in improving access to care across Montana. Their continued investment in women’s health reflects a shared commitment to advancing technology, supporting early detection and ensuring every patient receives timely, compassionate care.
