Hall of HeroesOn July 9, Logan Health Children’s will honor 16-year-old Mason Garey by inducting him into the facility’s Hall of Heroes, a recognition of his extraordinary courage, resilience and determination following a life-changing lightning strike that nearly claimed his life.

On August 19, 2024, Mason was struck by lightning during soccer tryouts at Glacier High School, sending him into a battle for survival that tested both his strength and the dedication of everyone who cared for him. Thanks to the quick actions of bystanders and first responders, Mason was taken to the emergency department at Logan Health, where he received lifesaving care. He went on to stay at Logan Health Children’s, where he was cared for by many pediatric specialists during his recovery. Remarkably, Mason survived his injuries and was discharged two months later.

Mason continues rehabilitation to this day and has faced every challenge with remarkable determination. Guided by his faith, resilience and unwavering commitment, he has remained focused on returning to the soccer field and doing what he loves most.

“Mason’s story reminds us why the Hall of Heroes exists,” said Amy Rohyans Stewart, manager of Logan Health Children’s. “These children show incredible courage through some of life’s most difficult moments. Their stories give hope to families who are facing similar challenges and remind them that brighter days are possible.”

The Hall of Heroes celebrates pediatric patients whose strength, perseverance and recovery inspire others. Located within Logan Health Children’s, the display features young patients who have overcome significant medical challenges. For families walking the halls during some of their hardest days, the Hall of Heroes serves as a powerful reminder that hope can be found, even in the most difficult circumstances.

“Mason inspired everyone who cared for him,” said Rohyans Stewart. “His determination, positive spirit and resilience touched our entire team. We are honored to recognize him as one of our heroes.”

Mason and his family remain deeply grateful for the prayers, encouragement and support they have received throughout his recovery. While his journey continues, his story has already become an inspiration to caregivers, patients and families throughout the region.

Logan Health Children’s will officially induct Mason into the Hall of Heroes during a special ceremony attended by Mason, his family, caregivers and members of the Logan Health Children’s team. His portrait will join those of other remarkable children whose courage continues to encourage patients and families every day.
