Community members of all ages gathered to honor loved ones during Logan Health’s Inaugural Cancer Survivors Day on June 7. Approximately 250 attendees enjoyed outdoor games and activities, browsed over 15 different cancer resource tables, heard from motivational speaker and lifestyle coach Eric Robbins, and participated in a butterfly release as a symbolic gesture of hope. The event was coordinated by committee members from various hospital departments, including oncology, to honor individuals who have faced a cancer diagnosis. The event also included educational activities for the whole family and community resources about cancer prevention and screening.
An individual is considered a cancer survivor from the time of diagnosis throughout the rest of their life. According to the American Cancer Society, as of January 1, 2025, approximately 1 out of every 18 Americans is a cancer survivor, totaling around 18.6 million people nationwide. Cancer Survivors Day is celebrated nationwide on June 1, and June is recognized as National Cancer Survivors Month.
The community’s presence at this event served as a powerful reminder that, whether an individual has experienced cancer or is currently walking through a cancer journey, they are not alone. Survivors, along with their friends and family members, spent the day sharing stories and connecting with others, creating new memories filled with hope.
