On April 20, 2024, Logan Health is hosting the 46th Annual A.L.E.R.T. Banquet, the marquee fundraising event for the medical flight program.
The A.L.E.R.T. program began in 1975 as the second hospital-based advanced life support helicopter system in the United States and the first of its kind in rural America. Today, A.L.E.R.T. continues its lifesaving legacy in the region and has evolved into an elite medical and critical care transport program, with a highly-trained and highly-specialized flight crew. Since its creation, the program has responded to more than 20,000 emergency calls and saved thousands of lives.
“Our community recognizes the significance of the A.L.E.R.T. program and has shown remarkable support over the years,” says Joe McClafferty, president of the Logan Health Foundation. “Philanthropy is deeply rooted in this program and is integral to sustaining the critical emergency care to the Flathead Valley and its surrounding areas.”
Each year, a patient story is highlighted during the Banquet to help demonstrate the lifesaving impact that A.L.E.R.T. has on Montana’s communities. This year’s story focuses on Trooper Lewis Johnson, the Montana Highway Patrol Officer who was critically injured during a police chase in February 2023. Trooper Johnson was airlifted by the A.L.E.R.T. helicopter from a rural area near Eureka to Logan Health Medical Center in Kalispell. After twelve days at LHMC, Trooper Johnson was transported by the A.L.E.R.T. fixed wing plane to Denver for rehabilitation.
Trooper Johnson’s story highlights the critical importance of the A.L.E.R.T. program – both from the emergency rescue and transport perspectives.
