Biography

Melissa L. Kaptanian, MD, FACS, is a breast surgical oncologist specializing in surgery for breast cancer and other conditions of the breast. She is committed to providing comprehensive breast health care and helping patients navigate diagnosis and treatment with confidence and support.

Dr. Kaptanian earned her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency in 2008. She went on to complete fellowship training in breast surgical oncology at the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Kaptanian is passionate about increasing access to comprehensive breast health care and raising awareness about appropriate screening and risk reduction. She strives for excellent cosmetic outcomes and works closely with reconstructive surgeons to provide individualized surgical care. She also has a strong commitment to cancer care and supportive services, working to ensure patients have access to high-quality, comprehensive treatment that addresses the whole person.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Kaptanian enjoys Montana’s rivers, trails and slopes, as well as spending time with the people she meets throughout the community.
