Deborah Lessmeier, MD, joined the practice of Geriatrics and Supportive Care at Logan Health in November 2014. She contributes her extensive experience in family care to the team, with a particular emphasis on geriatrics, nursing home and home hospice care. Dr. Lessmeier earned her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, then carried out her residency in family practice with North Colorado Family Medicine in Greeley, Colorado. She began her professional practice at Timberline Medical in Estes Park, Colorado. In early 1991 she made the move to Juneau, Alaska, as a full-time commissioned officer with Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, a busy Indian Health Service clinic that included nursing home and home hospice care. After taking a year off to be a mom, she joined Family Practice Physicians in 2006 where her emphasis was geriatrics and pain management. Other activities have included physician support for National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency, Hospice, Cancer Support Group and being a liaison between mental health services and the medical staff. In her time away from the hospital, Dr. Lessmeier pursues her passions of spending time with her family, getting outdoors for recreation, gardening and, yes, medicine!
