In October 2024, PacificSource Health Plans made a generous $70,000 investment in breast cancer care through Logan Health Foundation. The gift supported the purchase of a second breast MRI coil and contributed to Carol’s Fund—an endowment that sustains breast cancer services and improves access to coordinated care for women across the Flathead Valley.

Breast MRI coil

This spring, Erik Wood, Montana Market President for PacificSource Health Plans, visited Logan Health to meet with Imaging Services leadership and see the newly installed coil in action. The updated breast MRI coil includes soft padding that increases patient comfort and reduces time spent in the scanner, making the experience more accessible for patients needing preventive or diagnostic breast imaging.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see this new breast MRI coil in place and already making a difference for patients,” said Wood. “At PacificSource, we are committed to helping people lead healthier lives by increasing access to high-quality care. This investment ensures that more women in northwest Montana can receive timely and advanced screenings. We are proud to support Logan Health and Carol’s Fund in delivering compassionate and coordinated care when it matters most.”

The addition of a second coil not only increases capacity, but it also enhances the imaging technology available for supplemental screening. For women with dense breast tissue, mammograms alone may not always detect abnormalities. With the latest upgrades in both the MRI and mammography suites, Logan Health’s imaging team can better identify cancers that may not be visible on a mammogram, offering earlier detection and potentially life-saving interventions.

“We are incredibly grateful to PacificSource for their thoughtful investment in patient care,” said Dr. Scott Alexander, Vice President of Northwest Imaging and Logan Health Mammography’s lead interpreting physician. “Keeping up with the ever-changing technology advancements and needs of our patients would be impossible without the generosity of donors like PacificSource.”

By supporting cutting-edge tools and programs like Carol’s Fund, PacificSource is helping ensure that more women across northwest Montana have access to timely, effective, and personalized breast cancer screenings—strengthening the region’s ability to catch cancer early and treat it with precision.

“This generous support from PacificSource will make a real difference for both our team and the patients we serve,” said Angie Tennison, Manager of Mammography, MRI and MRI Safety at Logan Health’s Imaging Services. “It’s an investment not just in equipment and technology, but in improving access and quality of care in our community. With this funding, we’re able to move forward on critical upgrades that enhance imaging capabilities, improve diagnostic accuracy and ultimately lead to better outcomes for our patients. We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership.”
