NVH Laboratory
The North Valley Hospital laboratory offers small-hospital familiarity with the instrumentation of a large medical center. The laboratory is College of American Pathologist (CAP) certified and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified. CAP certification is the highest regarded laboratory recognition in the country.

What are the hours of operation?
  • Regular business hours for routine walk-in tests are Monday-Sunday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Testing can be scheduled outside of the regular business hours.
  • For special kits ordered by your provider, and tests that need to be sent to an outside laboratory, we recommend an appointment to ensure we have the necessary information and adequate time for your test.
  • COVID testing is by appointment only, Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To schedule a COVID test, please call 406-862-1754 and leave a message if needed. We will call you back ASAP.

What information is needed when I arrive for tests at Outpatient Laboratory Services?
  1. Insurance card
  2. Legal identification
  3. Signed physician’s order with diagnosis (lab requisition). The order can be in the following formats:
    1. The actual paper document
    2. A faxed copy - send to (406) 863-3677
  4. Fasting may be required for some tests (check with your provider)
  5. Drop-offs are now done inside the Outpatient Laboratory Services
Do I need to schedule an appointment for lab work?
No. An appointment is only required for COVID tests, special kits, or outside of regular hours, as outlined above.

Do I have to register every time I have lab tests ordered?
Yes. All patients need to register each time they have a specimen collected or dropped off.
 
What do I need to do if they need to drop off a specimen?
Patient specimens should be dropped off at the Outpatient Laboratory Services office in regular business hours, Monday-Sunday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pease register prior to dropping off a sample. All samples must be labelled with: first name, last name, and date of birth of the person as well as the date and time the sample was collected. Please do not put labels on lids. 

How quickly can I get lab results?
Some lab tests may take longer to perform than others. Please consult your provider to determine when you should expect to receive your lab results.

How do I access my test results online?
The FollowMyHealth patient portal is a convenient way to view laboratory and imaging results. In order to sign up for the Follow My Health patient portal, make sure you provide us with your email address at the time of registration.  You will receive an email with a link and sign up instructions for the portal

What if I have questions about my test results or why a test was ordered?
All questions concerning the tests ordered or an explanation of your test results should be directed to your health care provider or your provider’s clinical staff.

All questions concerning fasting and tests that have been ordered should be directed to your provider or your provider’s clinical staff.

College of American Pathologists (CAP) Accredited Laboratory

Accredited by College of American Pathologists The CAP program is recognized by the federal government as being equal to, or more stringent than, the government’s own inspection program. The North Valley Hospital laboratory was awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of CAP since 1997. North Valley Hospital was congratulated for the “excellence of the services being provided.”

The CAP certification mark is a service mark owned by CAP and is used pursuant to a license from CAP.
