New Wheels and Supplies for Exceptional Care at Logan Health Brendan House

Kelly Bilau, our Logan Health Brendan House Administrator, knew that the Brendan House van was old and wouldn’t be able to provide safe transportation much longer. And, that was a problem.

The Brendan House van is a necessity for our residents and their families. These residents at Logan Health Brendan House are someone’s mother, father, grandparent, or spouse. Their families depended on the van—a secure vehicle that would shield and protect their loved ones, as they’re safely shuttled to doctor and dental appointments. The Logan Health Brendan House team knew it was time to upgrade the vehicle, but they weren’t sure how they could afford it.

Kelly reached out to the Logan Health Foundation. With generous donations from the Grateful Patient Program and other thoughtful gifts bestowed to the long-term care facility by our donors, the Brendan House fund had over $84,000 in it—ready to be used. It took just a few weeks to get the quotes and all of the approvals, and move forward with the purchase of a new 2019 Ford Transit ADA shuttle van.
“Generous donors have made it possible for us to purchase a brand new van to allow our residents to have the best transportation option,” said Kelly.

“We have grateful patients, families and community members that contribute to the Logan Health Foundation on behalf of Brendan House and our new van is the product of that benevolence. The quality of service we can provide is made possible by their thoughtful and substantial gifts. Logan Health Brendan House is thankful for the support of our community and we look forward to continuing to serve those in need.”

In addition to the new van for transporting residents there was an urgent need for new electronic medication carts with drawers that need to be replaced in the Brendan House transitional care unit. Enough money remained in the fund to purchase five new carts, costing $5,142 each, that were essential for workflow and delivery of patient care.

The funds for the van and the electronic medication carts came from donors. Families who wanted to thank Logan Health Brendan House for taking such extraordinary care of the people they loved. The gift of philanthropy has made a difference for many residents who continue to call Brendan House their home.
