Be savvy about summer safety

Brain bucket. Chrome dome. Skid lid. Hard hat. Brain cap. No matter how you say it, safety helmets are important and should be used.

As summer nears in the Flathead Valley, we all get excited to go outside, stretch our legs and take part in Montana’s many outdoor activities. The boundless opportunity for outdoor fun and adventure is a primary reason why we all love living here. However, at Kalispell Regional Healthcare, we also want you to protect the most important organ of the body while you adventure. Remember to wear a helmet and protect your brain!

In fact, we think this is such an important to share with our community that we invite you to join us for Spring Into Safety Kids Day on May 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Trade Center at Northwest Montana Fairgrounds. The event is open to all Flathead Valley families and free! It’s one way we can help ensure you have a safe summer.

Thanks to support from Flathead Electric’s Roundup for Safety program, Kalispell Regional Healthcare will give away more than 1,000 youth bicycle helmets. Also remember to bring your bikes for a maintenance check and try out the road safety course. Car seat safety checks will be provided, as well.

Stick around for the afternoon and take part in other family-friendly activities like kids’ games and face painting. Check out the A.L.E.R.T. and Two Bear Air helicopters and talk to the crew members. You might even be able to sit in the pilot’s seat so be sure to bring your camera! Likewise, local police, fire, emergency services and search and rescue will be present with their cars and engines to talk about their roles in the community. More than 30 community programs will be on hand to showcase what they do for local kids and families. Join us!
